Maintenance of laser welding machines

2023-07-12

Proper maintenance of your laser welding machine is critical to ensure optimal performance and longevity. So how do we go about maintenance?

1. Regular Cleaning: Keep the machine clean by regularly removing dust, debris and any residue that may have accumulated on the optics, lenses and mirrors. Use a clean, lint-free cloth and the appropriate cleaning solution recommended by SUNNA. Avoid touching optical surfaces directly with your fingers.

2. Cooling System Maintenance: The cooling system of the laser welding machine usually consists of a chiller or water cooling unit that requires regular maintenance. Check and maintain proper water levels, monitor temperatures, and clean or replace filters as needed. Follow SUNNA's cooling system maintenance guidelines.

3. Optics Alignment: Periodically inspect and align the laser beam delivery optics to ensure that the beam is properly focused and aligned with the workpiece. Failure to align can result in poor weld quality and performance degradation. Follow SUNNA's instructions for aligning the optics or consult a qualified technician.

4. Gas Supply System: If your laser welding machine utilizes a gas supply system, such as shielding or auxiliary gas, monitor the gas pressure and flow rate on a regular basis. Check for leaks and make sure the gas supply line is properly connected and in good condition.

5. Laser Source Maintenance: Depending on the type of laser used in the machine (e.g., fiber laser, CO2 laser), follow SUNNA's recommended laser source maintenance procedures. This may involve cleaning or replacing certain components or performing routine inspections.

6. Periodic maintenance and calibration: Schedule periodic maintenance and calibration of the laser welding machine by a qualified technician or authorized service center. This ensures that the machine operates at optimum performance and meets the required specifications.

7. Operator Training: Ensure that operators are properly trained in the operation, maintenance and safety protocols for the specific laser welding machine they are using. A well-trained operator can identify and resolve problems early, thereby reducing the risk of damage and extending the life of the machine.

8. Safety Measures: Follow all safety guidelines provided by SUNNA. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as laser safety glasses, following electrical safety protocols, and ensuring proper ventilation of the work area.
