2024-02-02

With the help of some tips and tricks, accessories and adjustments, you can easily prevent burn marks on your wood. In this article we will share some effective ways to help you prevent burn marks. You can choose the most suitable one or apply them one by one.

(1) Use Masking Tape

If you want to eliminate surface burns during laser engraving, then this is the best method. Before engraving, you can apply masking tape to the surface of the wooden object. The burn marks will appear on the tape and the wood will remain clean. This is the most cost-effective solution, but it will not prevent burn marks from appearing on the edges of the wood when you use a laser to cut it.

(2) Using honeycomb board

If there are burn marks on the back of the wood, they may be caused by the surface or bed underneath the laser machine. When the laser machine engraves or cuts an object, smoke flows on the underside of the object. It can cause visible burn marks. Therefore, suitable panels are required to provide optimum ventilation and easy passage of smoke. Honeycomb panels are best suited for this purpose. It accelerates the escape of smoke and prevents discoloration of the object. In addition, it protects the table or surface on which you use the laser machine.

(3) Air Assist

The air assist is a key component of the laser engraver. It provides a strong airflow to blow debris and smoke away from the object. The cause of surface color changes is the accumulation of heat and smoke. The air assist device reduces the temperature of the material surface and prevents burn marks and color changes.

(4) Adjustment of power and speed

Sometimes, improper adjustment of power and speed can also leave burn marks. Therefore, it is a good idea to perform a power speed test before engraving on any object. This will give you a better idea of the power and speed that needs to be selected.

(5) Water Spray

Water can also prevent burn marks on wood. You can spray water on the surface. It works well on thin pieces of wood if you can easily submerge them in water. The soot will not affect the surface of the wood because of the water.
